El puente de los asesinos is a novel in the Captain Alatriste series by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, in which Diego Alatriste and his apprentice Íñigo are recruited for a secret mission in Venice to participate in a coup d'état aimed at deposing the Doge. The mission involves complex political intrigue and personal confrontations, notably between Alatriste and his longtime adversary Gualterio Malatesta, who is granted freedom in exchange for his involvement and with whom he ultimately shares a drawn duel before escaping together.
