Henri Nouwen wrote this book twenty years before as his personal response to heightening Cold War tensions. It offers a three-fold path for Christians to embrace Jesus's ethic of peacemaking: beginning with a life of prayer and a move from fear and hatred into the house of God, then resisting the powers of death, including everyday selfishness, and finally celebrating life and building communities of love and forgiveness.
