In April 1925, Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, now mother to two-year-old twins, resumes her journalism career by writing about the Tower of London, touring the Crown Jewels, interviewing Yeoman Warders, meeting the Raven Master, and observing the Ceremony of the Keys, which requires her to spend the night there. The next morning she nearly trips over the dead body of a yeoman warder, killed with a halberd, and her husband, Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard, is assigned to the case.
