Risika was born in 1684 as Rachel Weatere. She was renamed Risika by someone who changed her against her will. She now lives in a shaded room in Concord, Massachusetts, where she sleeps by day and hunts the streets of New York City by night. She has lived as a vampire for more than three hundred years. Once, she had a brother and a sister who loved her. Now she is alone, but someone is following her. A black rose has been left for her, the same type of rose that marked her transformation. This is the debut novel of a fourteen-year-old author, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.
