About “Death in the Tunnel”

The story is the thirteenth in a mystery series featuring Inspector Arnold and amateur detective Desmond Merrion. On a dark November evening, Sir Wilfred Saxonby is found shot dead in a locked train compartment. The train stopped in a tunnel, and the only clue is a mysterious red light. Inspector Arnold is unsure if it was suicide and seeks help from Desmond Merrion. Merrion believes it is part of a complex conspiracy, but the motives and identities of the conspirators remain unclear. Investigators wonder if there is a connection to Sir Wilfred's family life, business success, or his harsh personality. A wallet with bank notes is found on the corpse, adding to the mystery.
