Dr. Lancelot Priestley solves the murder of old Mr. Fransham, who was found with an ugly wound on his forehead in a locked room. The crime took place in his niece’s cloakroom while he was washing his hands. There was a policeman in the house at the time, and no apparent weapon was found. Superintendents Hanslet and Waghorn could not solve the case, and it was eventually dropped. The mystery was later solved when Dr. Priestley connected it to another baffling murder, using his orderly and imaginative deductions. This is the twenty-eighth book in a long-running mystery series featuring Dr. Priestley.
