About “Shadow of an Alibi”

The Telephone Call is a 1948 detective novel by John Rhode, the pen name of British author Cecil Street. It is the forty-seventh book in a series featuring Lancelot Priestley, a classic armchair detective. The novel was published in the United States by Dodd Mead under the title Shadow of an Alibi. The story is based on the real Wallace Case of 1931, in which William Herbert Wallace was initially convicted of murdering his wife, Julia, but his conviction was later overturned on appeal.
