Even in death, Skilgannon the Damned's name lives on. A thousand years after he fell in battle, an ancient evil threatens the Drenai heartlands, and Skilgannon returns. The Drenai live in fear of the Joinings, abominable creatures created by the dark sorceress the Eternal. A prophecy foretold Skilgannon's return in his people's darkest hour. Landis Kan, who searched for Skilgannon's tomb for years, finds it and performs a ritual to bring the hero back. However, the reborn Skilgannon is a young man with blunted skills and fragmented memories. He is a man out of time, confused by the world around him. Before bringing Skilgannon back, Kan experimented with other bones in the tomb, creating a surly giant with strength but no memory. This giant becomes Skilgannon's only hope as the Eternal's evil threatens the Drenai lands.
