About “People of the Lakes (North America's Forgotten Past, Book Six)”
The Mound Builder people of the Great Lakes region are torn apart by conflict over a powerful totemic mask. Star Shell, daughter of a Hopewell chief, takes it upon herself to end the curse. She travels with companions—Otter, a trader; Pearl, a runaway; and Green Spider, a prophet or madman—across stormy lakes to reach Roaring Water waterfall. Their goal is to destroy the mask and save their people. However, vengeful clan members pursue them, seeking to end Star Shell's life. The story is set in what will become Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan. People of the Lakes is part of the North America's Forgotten Past saga by W. Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neal Gear.
