Stephanie Harrington always planned to be a forest ranger on her homeworld of Meyerdahl. After her parents moved to the frontier planet of Sphinx in the Star Kingdom of Manticore, she expected a new adventure in a wild, unexplored environment. However, Sphinx proved far more dangerous than Meyerdahl, and her parents restricted her from exploring alone. Despite this, Stephanie was determined to make discoveries. She eventually encountered the treecats, a small, intelligent alien species that was both clever and dangerous. Treecats had a fondness for celery and were highly protective of their territory. Stephanie learned this firsthand when she faced one of Sphinx's most deadly predators. This 2011 novel by David Weber follows her experiences on the planet.
