Flying Colours is a novel by C. S. Forester featuring Captain Horatio Hornblower. First published in 1938, it is the third in the series but the eighth in internal chronology. The story follows Hornblower and his men as they escape imprisonment in Napoleonic France and make their way back to England. The novel is one of three Hornblower stories adapted into the 1951 film Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.. The book focuses on themes of survival, loyalty, and perseverance in the face of adversity.
