About “Flood of Fire”
In 1839, China embargoes opium, and Britain assembles an expeditionary force from India to reinstate the trade. Kesri Singh, a soldier in the East India Company's army, sails toward Hong Kong aboard the Hind, joined by Zachary Reid, an American opium-futures speculator, and Shireen, an opium merchant's widow seeking his lost son. War breaks out as the Hind reaches Hong Kong, and opium floods the market like a monsoon flood.
