Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband begin demolishing an old New York building when they uncover two skeletons wrapped in plastic. Eve investigates and discovers twelve murders linked to the site, which once housed a shelter for troubled teenagers in the mid-2040s. She interviews those who ran the shelter and works with a forensic anthropologist to identify the victims. All the victims are young girls with different backgrounds, each with a tragic story. Eve finds a connection between the victims and someone she knows, driving her to uncover the secrets of the shelter, known as The Sanctuary, and the evil hidden in one person's heart. The novel is the latest in the In Death series by Nora Roberts.
