Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates a murder in a near-future New York City. The victim, a young brunette, is found in East River Park with signs of prolonged torture. A silver ring is placed on her left ring finger, and her torso is marked with the time she died. The scene mirrors a case from nine years prior involving a killer known as "The Groom," who placed silver rings on his victims. The Groom disappeared after killing four women in fifteen days. Now, the killer has returned, and his latest victim works for Eve's husband, Roarke. The murder scene includes products from a store Roarke owns and a sheet made by his company. Eve teams up with Roarke to stop the killer, who has targeted another woman. Time is critical as the killer prepares his most challenging abduction yet.
