About “The Jewel That Was Ours”

A group of American tourists is staying in Oxford as part of a tour through English towns. One tourist is found dead in her hotel room, and her pocketbook, which contains the "Wolvercote Tongue"—a priceless artifact meant for donation to the Ashmolean Museum—is stolen. Detective Chief Inspector Morse and Sergeant Lewis investigate and soon face another murder: the museum official who was to receive the artifact is killed. The mystery surrounding the artifact leads to deadly consequences. Morse and Lewis work to uncover the truth, following clues and revealing hidden secrets. The story is based on a 1991 novel by Colin Dexter.
