Lieutenant Matt Gallagher started a blog to update his family and friends about his experiences. His posts covered a range of topics, including mission details, thoughts on immortality, and stories about the Gravediggers, the name for his platoon. He also wrote about incidents, such as Bon Jovi cassettes being mistaken for bombs. In June 2008, the U.S. Army shut down his blog. This led to more than twenty-five congressional inquiries and reports that some high-ranking military officials were disappointed the blog was closed. The blog had reached a wider audience than Gallagher originally intended.
