About “A Time to Kill”

A Time to Kill is a 1989 legal thriller and the debut novel by American author John Grisham. It was initially rejected by many publishers before being printed in a limited run of 5,000 copies by Wynwood Press. After the success of Grisham's later novel The Firm, Wynwood reissued A Time to Kill as a trade paperback, which became a bestseller. Dell later published a mass market paperback, increasing Grisham's popularity. Doubleday eventually took over the novel's publication and released a special hardcover edition.
