Death Is Forever is the eleventh novel in the James Bond series by John Gardner. It begins after the Cold War ends and the British-American intelligence network in the Eastern Bloc collapses. Efforts to reconnect with the network, codenamed CABAL, fail when the case officers are killed. James Bond and his American counterpart, Easy St. John, investigate and find an undercover agent who dies before meeting Bond. They realize the entire network is in danger and race across Europe to save the agents. They discover that the enemy is Wolfgang Weisen, a former East German security director who has a loyal group of officers and weapons. Weisen plans to eliminate Bond before carrying out a mission to destabilize Western Europe. The novel includes exciting chases and a dramatic ending.
