About “Five Hundred Years After (Phoenix Guards)”
Five Hundred Years After is a fantasy novel by American writer Steven Brust, the second book in the Khaavren Romances series. Set in the fantasy world of Dragaera, the novel is inspired by Alexandre Dumas's Twenty Years After. Brust writes the story in the voice of a Dragaeran novelist, Paarfi of Roundwood, parodying Dumas's style with swashbuckling adventure and longwinded storytelling. The Khaavren Romances are based on Dumas's works, with each book adapting the plot of a Dumas novel into Dragaera's setting. The first five books draw from the Musketeer series, while later works, like The Baron of Magister Valley, are inspired by The Count of Monte Cristo. The novel was published in 1994.
