About “Regulated agent-based social systems”
This volume presents selected, extended, and reviewed versions of papers presented at the 1st International Workshop on Regulated Agent Systems: Theory and Applications (RASTA 2002). The workshop was held in Bologna, Italy, in July 2002, and was co-located with the 1st International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (AAMAS 2002). In addition to papers from the workshop, several new papers on the theme were included. Agent technology is a new paradigm in software engineering, involving autonomous, mobile, and intelligent agents. Multiagent systems are a major area of research in computer science, with growing commercial applications. The RASTA workshop aimed to bring together researchers from computer science and social sciences to explore social theories for regulating multiagent systems. A total of 17 papers appear in the volume, including nine from the workshop and six new papers. An invited paper by Bruce Edmonds reflects discussions from the event. The selection is divided into two major topics.
