About “Locomotives of the L.N.E.R. Part 5”
The Great Eastern Railway was established on 1 August 1862 following a name change from the Eastern Counties Railway. The ECR had initially been constructed with a 5 ft gauge but was converted to the standard gauge of 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in during September and October 1844.
