About “Feast of souls”
At the end of her Coldfire trilogy, C.S. Friedman introduced a world where sorcery demands the ultimate sacrifice—life itself. In Feast of Souls, the cost of magic is the human spirit, and those who seek power must pay with their lives. The story follows Prince Andovan, who is dying from a mysterious illness called the Wasting. His father, High King Danton Aurelius, calls upon Magisters, powerful sorcerers who rarely work together. They are determined to keep a dangerous secret: the transformation that allows them to use soulfire without dying. The Wasting is actually caused by a Magister stealing Andovan’s soulfire, a truth the Magisters must protect. Kamala, a young woman who was sold into prostitution as a child, has grown strong and defiant. She is trained in the Magisters’ arts and may become the first woman to master true sorcery. Her journey challenges the Magisters’ secrecy. As the Magisters try to stop the link between Andovan and his soul thief, they face Kamala’s determination and the growing threat of an ancient evil. Set against a backdrop of kingdoms and dark prophecies, the novel explores the struggles of two young people as they confront their fates. Meanwhile, an ancient force stirs, seeking allies for a terrible cause.
