Lois Williams watches old Mrs. Montfort sign her will, feeling only a small chill she attributes to the dampness of the house. Later she is startled by a similarity between a young woman's voice and the old woman's remembered voice, and with editor Bob Oliver and Detective Nathan Shapiro, becomes caught up in a mystery of elusive identities and a killer pursuing them through a storm.
