Manifold: Origin (2001) is a science fiction novel by British author Stephen Baxter, the third installment in the Manifold Trilogy. As in the other books, protagonist Reid Malenfant confronts a scenario dealing with the Fermi paradox, with each novel presenting an alternative, non-sequential scenario; this one explores primate evolution to explain humanity's lack of contact with other intelligent species.
