About “A Monstrous Regiment of Women”

A Monstrous Regiment of Women is the second novel in the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R. King. After a difficult visit from her relatives, Mary finds herself in London, where she meets an old Oxford friend. This friend introduces her to Margery Childe, the leader of a group called "The New Temple of God," which is linked to the post-World War I suffrage movement. Mary becomes interested in the group and its leader, but when a series of murders targets women involved with the movement, she begins to investigate. With Holmes offering guidance, Mary uncovers a dangerous secret that puts her in grave danger. The novel explores themes of feminism, religion, and the struggle for women's rights.
