About “Race against time”
Race Against Time: Searching for Hope in AIDS-Ravaged Africa is a non-fiction book written by Stephen Lewis for the Massey Lectures. It was written in early to mid-2005 and published by House of Anansi Press as a lecture series began in October 2005. Each chapter was delivered as a separate lecture in different Canadian cities, starting in Vancouver on October 18 and ending in Toronto on October 28. The lectures were later broadcast on CBC Radio One from November 7 to 11. Lewis, who was the United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa and a former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations, wrote the book and delivered the lectures as a concerned Canadian citizen. His critical comments about the UN and other international organizations, including specific names, were considered undiplomatic and led some reviewers to question whether he would be removed from his UN position.
