Mercy Thompson is a coyote shapeshifter who has become a strong and consistent hero. In this novel, she and her werewolf mate, Adam, face rising tensions between humans and the fae. They are called to stop a troll, but they find a human child who was taken by the fae long ago. This child could be used to prevent a war between the two groups. Despite opposition from powerful werewolves, humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack decide to protect the boy.
