In the aftermath of a family tragedy, Mike Bowditch has left the Maine Warden Service and is working as a fishing guide in the North Woods. When his mentor, Sgt. Kathy Frost, is forced to kill a troubled war veteran in what appears to be a "suicide by cop" incident, Bowditch begins reconsidering his decision to leave the service. As Frost becomes the target of a government inquiry and threats from the soldier's platoon mates, she is shot outside her farmhouse, prompting Bowditch to join the hunt for the sniper while confronting his own past and uncertain future.
