About “The Moving Finger”

The placid village of Lymstock appears to be the ideal place for Jerry Burton to recover from his accident with the help of his sister, Joanna. However, the village's peace is disrupted by a series of vicious poison-pen letters, which ultimately lead to a suicide. As the vicar, the doctor, and the servants begin to turn on each other, unexpected help arrives when the vicar's houseguest is revealed to be Jane Marple. This 1942 novel by Agatha Christie follows her investigation into the letters and the tensions they create in the community.
