About “The Rabbi”
Michael Kind, descended from Jews and raised in a marginal New York neighborhood, is torn between the antagonistic legacies of his grandfather and his religious educator on one side and his father on the other. His grandfather instilled in him a sense of belonging to the Jewish community while his educator provided religious instruction, whereas his father taught him to value freedom and question norms, shaping his path as a tolerant, open rabbi willing to confront obstacles to his relationship with a woman outside the Jewish community.
