Eleven years ago, wealthy Nebraska businessman James Herold treated his only son, Paul, poorly. Now he asks detective Nero Wolfe to find Paul so he can make amends. However, Paul may not want to be found, and he is also the same P.H. currently on trial for murder. The case leads Nero Wolfe and his assistant into a complex situation filled with lies, testing their abilities and resources. The investigation proves extremely challenging and ultimately results in the loss of one of their own. The story is from a 1956 book by Rex Stout.
