Nero Wolfe travels from his Manhattan brownstone to the Kanawha Spa to give a speech to a group of famous chefs and sample their culinary skills during an annual dinner. While there, one of the chefs is murdered, forcing Wolfe and his assistant, Archie, to investigate. They uncover a complex network of lies and clues, blending criminal elements with the culinary world. The mystery intertwines food and deception as the duo works to uncover the truth.
