Many years ago, a strange alien lifeform called the Black Mass destroyed an entire solar system in the Thallonion Empire. Now it has returned, and its target is Tulan IV, the homeworld of the powerful Redeemers. The Overlord of the Redeemers, facing certain destruction, turns to Captain Calhoun and the Starship Excalibur for help. Calhoun, dealing with the return of his rebellious son, is reluctant to assist his enemy, but he must act when innocent lives are at risk.
