Captain Mackenzie Calhoun is marooned on the primitive world of Yakaba after his ship, Excalibur, is destroyed by sabotage. He is separated from his first officer, Shelby, who believes Calhoun was killed. On Yakaba, Calhoun meets Rheela, a woman with the ability to summon rain, who is targeted by enemies seeking to control or destroy her. Stranded and unable to communicate with his crew, Calhoun must fight against those who want to seize power. Meanwhile, Shelby, grieving and determined, must find her own strength as a leader. The story follows their struggles on opposite sides of a dangerous world.
