About “Shingoshūi Wakashū”
Shingoshūi Wakashū, also known as Shingoshūishū, is an imperial anthology of Japanese waka poetry completed around 1383. It was commissioned by Emperor Go-Enyū in 1375 at the request of the Ashikaga Shōgun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The anthology was compiled by Fujiwara no Tametō and completed by Fujiwara no Tameshige. It includes a Japanese preface written by Nijō Yoshimoto, a noted conservative critic and poet associated with renga. The collection consists of twenty volumes containing 1,554 waka poems.
