About “Dancer's lament”

For centuries, warfare has plagued the continent as small city-states and regions fought constantly. The alliance of Tali and Quon cities once created a powerful hegemony known as Quon Taili, but it collapsed a generation ago. Now, regional powers are resuming conflict. Two youths arrive in the city-state of LiHeng: Dorin, an assassin determined to prove himself, and a Dal Hon mage who has evaded death. LiHeng has been protected for centuries by the powerful sorceress known as the Protectress and her five mage servants. However, the city faces new threats as Itko Kan, a southern king, marches forward with his assassin servants, the Nightblades, and mysterious forces. Strange shadows and monstrous beasts appear in the city, signaling a time of chaos and opportunity.
