Patternmaster (1976) is a science fiction novel by Octavia E. Butler. Set in a distant future, the story explores a world divided between the dominant Patternists, their enemies the Clayarks, and the enslaved mutes. The Patternists possess intelligence and psychic abilities, and they are connected through a telepathic network. They are led by the Patternmaster, the most powerful telepath. The novel follows Teray, a young Patternist who discovers he is the son of the Patternmaster.
