About “Epinomis”
Epinomis is the last dialogue in the Platonic corpus. It continues the conversation from Laws, which explored the best way to structure a city-state. The same three characters—Clinias of Crete, Megillus of Sparta, and an unnamed Athenian—take part. They discuss how one acquires wisdom, an issue not addressed in Laws. The dialogue focuses on education and the pursuit of knowledge as a path to wisdom. It reflects Plato’s ongoing interest in the moral and intellectual development of individuals and society.
