Lucas Davenport's adopted daughter, Letty, receives a call from a woman who claims to be part of a group of nomadic panhandlers known as Travelers. The woman says someone is killing her friends and that her male companion has disappeared. Letty decides to go to North Dakota to help her, and Lucas joins her. As they investigate, they uncover a dangerous subculture. Lucas soon realizes there may be truth to the woman's story. His journey leads him into a world he has never encountered before, putting both him and Letty in danger. The experience changes his life in unexpected ways.
