About “Rabbit, Run”

Rabbit, Run is a 1960 novel by John Updike that follows Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, a 26-year-old former high school basketball player. He is stuck in a loveless marriage and a dull sales job, and he tries to escape the restrictions of his life. The novel is the first in a series of books about Rabbit, including Rabbit Redux, Rabbit is Rich, and Rabbit at Rest. A related novella, Rabbit Remembered, was published in 2001. Throughout the series, Updike explores Rabbit’s life against the backdrop of major events in the second half of the 20th century, using humor and reflection to examine his ongoing search for meaning.
