He is named Tower Lord of the Northern Reaches by King Janus's heir, hoping for peace in a remote land. However, those with the blood-song cannot live quietly. Many survived the wars, and Vaelin becomes a target for revenge and those who recognize his power. The Faith is divided, and the new king is weak, but his sister is strong. The blood-song offers guidance, but others understand more of its power. A force moves against the Realm, and Vaelin must eventually draw his sword when faced with annihilation.
