The Thirty-Nine Steps is a 1915 adventure novel by Scottish author John Buchan. It was first published by William Blackwood and Sons in Edinburgh. The story was serialized in All-Story Weekly on 5 and 12 June 1915, and in Blackwood's Magazine from July to September 1915, before being released as a book in October of the same year. The novel introduces Richard Hannay, an action-oriented hero known for his calm demeanor and ability to escape dangerous situations.
