The United Federation of Planets faces its first major crisis as it attempts to integrate the Rigel system, a powerful and prosperous region. Admiral Jonathan Archer travels to the planetoid Babel to negotiate Rigel's admission, but a heated presidential race within Rigel deepens ideological divisions, threatening the talks. The Orion Syndicate exploits this tension by aiding a hostile Rigelian faction to capture state secrets and Starfleet hostages, including a young officer with a significant role. Captain Malcolm Reed and Captain T’Pol lead a mission across Rigel’s diverse worlds to rescue the captives and prevent a devastating war.
