About “A murder on the Appian Way”
Rome is in chaos as rival gangs led by Publius Clodius and Titus Milo battle for control of the consular elections. Clodius is killed on the Appian Way, and Milo is accused of the murder, sparking riots and the burning of the Senate House. Gordianus the Finder, a skilled investigator, is tasked by Pompey the Great to uncover the truth behind Clodius's death. He must determine who is responsible and whether the killer is a villain or a hero. As Cicero defends Milo and the Clodians seek his downfall, the answers grow more complex. Meanwhile, Pompey and Julius Caesar observe the turmoil, advancing their own political goals. The 1996 novel by Steven Saylor explores the intrigue and violence of ancient Rome.
