About “Score!”

Score! is a 1999 novel by British author Jilly Cooper, part of the Rutshire Chronicles series. It combines elements of a bonkbuster and a murder mystery, set during the filming of the Verdi opera Don Carlos. The story centers on the murder of conductor Roberto Rannaldini and the following incidents of violence. It was Cooper's first attempt at crime fiction, and she conducted research by visiting film sets and speaking with police. The novel received mixed reviews, with criticism focusing on its complex plot that blends genres and its treatment of rape and sexual violence, which some reviewers felt were given minimal attention.
