About “A Winter Haunting”

Dale Stewart, a former college professor and novelist, has ruined his career and marriage. On the last hours of Halloween, he returns to Elm Haven, his boyhood home, seeking isolation and peace. He moves into a long-abandoned farmhouse, once occupied by a brilliant friend who died in a mysterious accident in 1960. His presence in the town is not without consequence, as his inner demons begin to distort his reality. As he settles in, a heavy snow begins to fall, deepening the sense of isolation and foreboding. The 2002 novel by Dan Simmons explores the psychological descent of a man haunted by his past.
