The Druids at Paranor, horrified by the misuse of magic during the First War of the Races, turned to the study of pre-collapse sciences, leaving only Bremen and a few others to pursue the arcane arts. Bremen, exiled for his persistence, discovered that dark forces from the Northlands, including an army of trolls and transformed Druids known as Skull Bearers, were advancing under the command of the archmage Brona, a former Druid. Realizing that the peoples of the Four Lands must unite and find a weapon powerful enough to resist Brona's magic, Bremen began his quest to secure that weapon.
