About “A Stitch in Time”
For nearly a decade, Garak has longed to return to Cardassia, but upon finally arriving, he finds a world in ruins. Home is now a place of destruction, where survival depends on simple comforts. A letter from Dr. Julian Bashir, an alien from the space station where Garak was exiled, prompts him to reflect on his life. Garak has lived many roles—student, gardener, spy, exile, tailor, and liberator—but never truly understood by Cardassian society. It is as a tailor that he finds purpose, seeing the broken fabric of his homeland and recognizing his role in mending it. Though he never wanted to be a tailor, it is this identity that both Cardassia and Garak need.
