About “Killing Time”

The USS Enterprise is on patrol near the Romulan neutral zone when the crew begins experiencing strange dreams. Captain James T. Kirk and Science Officer Spock both dream that Spock is captain and Kirk is an ensign. Starfleet Intelligence reveals the Romulans are using time travel. Kirk falls asleep and wakes up as Ensign Kirk on the VSS ShiKahr, a ship that seems like the Enterprise but is run by a drug-addled ex-convict. The Romulans had tried to change history by traveling back in time to destroy the Federation, creating a Vulcan-dominated one instead. A ship was shielded from the changes, and the crew discovers the timeline has been altered. Romulan agents capture Kirk, and Spock agrees to their demands. During the journey, Spock enters pon farr and mates with a Romulan named Thea. They rescue Kirk and learn the Romulans planned to send them back in time to stop the agents. They travel back, disable the agents, but Spock is seriously injured. Kirk and Spock mindmeld, restoring the original timeline.
