Spock and his father, Sarek, work together to stop a plan that could destroy the Federation. Sarek is deeply troubled because his wife, Amanda, is dying. Despite his personal pain, he chooses to fulfill his duty to the Federation. Spock also puts aside his personal feelings to help protect the organization. The story focuses on their partnership and the challenges they face. The novel was written by Ann C. Crispin in 1994.
